The Presence PracticeBrand, membership, and platform

The Presence Practice offered guided meditation recordings, bundles, individual sessions, and a separate app subscription. Customers had to understand the different products before knowing where to begin.

I rebuilt the brand, brought the separate offers into one membership, and developed Flow Studio, which helps people find a meditation for what they’re experiencing that day.

Designing the brand

The founder wanted to express how presence could help people experience everyday life more fully. I translated that idea into Ordinary Beauty: warm, weathered colors, soft typography, and photography of ordinary moments.

I designed a hand-drawn, slightly open circle to represent a practice that is never finished. A welcoming, unhurried voice carried the same feeling through the website and application.

A moodboard. At its centre, a card carrying a hand-drawn circle with a gap left in it, above the words The Presence Practice and Ordinary Beauty. Around it, photographs of mist over a lake, a walk along a coastal path with a dog, and hands holding a mug at a rainy window, arranged with swatches of cream, grey, tan and dark brown, torn handmade paper, weathered wood, limestone and loose-woven linen. A dark brown card carries the line experience life more fully.
Ordinary Beauty: the palette, materials and photography direction the brand was built from.
Exceptional developers are rare. Developers who also naturally understand vision, energy, user experience, branding, and innovation are even rarer.

Shaping the membership

I organized the membership into two tiers built around daily use. Members check in about how they’re feeling and receive a recommended meditation.

Both tiers include the full library, so recommendations can follow what someone needs without being restricted by which recordings they’ve bought. The higher tier lets members describe a situation they’re facing and receive a meditation written and narrated specifically for them.

Daily guidance gives people a reason to return. Personalization gives them a clear reason to upgrade.

From the very beginning, she understood the vision behind the app with almost uncanny clarity. She was able to take complex, abstract ideas and transform them into a polished, seamless, beautifully functioning product faster than I thought possible.

What it made possible

The founder was already using ChatGPT for parts of her personalized meditation workflow. I automated that process through the application so members could request personalized audio themselves.

For recordings the founder prepares personally for clients, I built a separate production and delivery workflow. By her estimate, the complete process now takes about 20 minutes instead of 90, freeing roughly 70 minutes per recording.

About 90 minutes of work per recording, down to about 20.

The founder’s estimate: a 78% reduction, and four and a half times as many personalized recordings in the same hours.

The hours are the smaller part of it. The same work now reaches people the founders could never have sat with individually: the library holds 71 guided experiences, built without narrating and re-recording every one, and a personalized recording is something a member can ask for themselves rather than something that has to be scheduled.

For a business of two people, that is the difference between selling someone’s time and selling something their time made.

What I delivered

  • Brand identity and voice: logo, colors, typography, photography direction, and language.
  • Public-facing website: introducing the service and guiding visitors toward membership.
  • Mobile-friendly web app: daily check-ins, recommendations, an audio library, and personalized meditation creation.
  • Subscription setup: two tiers, a trial, payments, and self-service billing.
  • Guided audio creation tools: script generation, narration, music mixing, review, and private client delivery.
  • Tools for the founders: managing the library, refining recommendations, and overseeing memberships.

The founders run it themselves. They can retune how the guide chooses a practice, in their own language rather than an engineer’s, and try a change on an imagined member before saving it.

The app's Today screen on a phone, asking how are you arriving today over a photograph of mist on water, with a check-in button and a list of recent practices.
The app's library on a phone, listing packs of practices such as Belonging and Relational Security, each with a photograph, a length and a short description.
A practice playing on a phone, with its title, a description, a progress bar, play and skip controls, and a choice of slower, as spoken or quicker.
The admin is BRILLIANT! So easy to use. You think of everything!
